SEO + AEO for local service businesses

Get found where San Diego actually looks now.

Google search, Google Maps, and AI answers like ChatGPT and AI Overviews — Harborcite gets your practice or shop showing up in all three, without a marketing hire or a $1,500/mo agency contract.

Why this matters right now

Fewer buyers are ever reaching a page of blue links to click.

68% zero-click

68.01% of US Google searches in early 2026 ended with no click at all, up from 60.45% in 2024 (SparkToro / Search Engine Land analysis of Similarweb clickstream data, fetched 2026-07-29).

83% on AI answers

Searches that trigger an AI Overview run about 83% zero-click, and only ~1% of AI Overview views produce a click to a cited source (Pew Research Center, "Do people click on links in Google AI summaries?", March 2025 browsing-panel data, published 2025-07-22, fetched 2026-07-29).

A real pricing gap

Local SEO for a true single-location small business runs $100–$800/mo. AI-answer visibility is currently sold either as $1,500+/mo enterprise SaaS or bundled into $750–$3,000/mo retainers. There's no clean, cheap option built for a one-location shop.

A business that never gets named in the answer stays invisible — even with a perfectly good website. That’s the gap the numbers above are describing.

Who this is for

Built around one specific owner, not a generic small-business pitch.

You're a fit if

  • You run a single-location, owner-operated service business — dental, physical therapy, or a trade (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) to start.
  • Roughly $500K–$5M in annual revenue, no in-house marketing person.
  • You already have a website, but your Google Business Profile is thin or unclaimed, you rank page 2+ for your own core service in your own city, and you don't show up when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI answers "best [service] near me."

Not a fit (yet)

  • Multi-location chains and businesses that already have marketing staff.
  • Businesses already running paid Google Ads with a working advisor — you've already solved the visibility problem a different way.

What you actually get

No dashboards you have to log into and figure out yourself — Harborcite does the work, you get a report.

  • GBP + site + AI-citation audit

A written, itemized audit of your Google Business Profile, your site's on-page SEO, and whether AI answer engines cite you at all — with a prioritized fix list, not a scare pitch.

  • Google Business Profile buildout

Category completion, service listings, photo and post cadence, and ongoing maintenance so your profile stops being the weakest link.

  • Schema markup

The structured-data layer that helps search engines and AI answer models understand and cite your business correctly.

  • AI-citation monitoring

Monthly or quarterly checks on whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity are naming you for your core service + city queries.

  • Content production

Growth-tier only: on-page content built to be citeable by AI answer engines, not just ranked by classic SEO.

  • Review-safe by policy

We never buy, gate, or incentivize reviews — full stance below. Your listing's standing is not something we'll risk for a faster result.

Pricing

Anchored below the small-business-specific market range on purpose — this is built to undercut, not match, agency pricing. from sourced market data, see demo section.

TierPriceWhat's included
Audit
one-time, entry offer
$250–$400 GBP + site + AI-citation audit, written report, prioritized fix list.
Foundational
monthly retainer
$300–$450/mo GBP optimization + maintenance, basic on-page SEO, monthly AI-citation check.
Growth
monthly retainer
$750–$1,000/mo Everything in Foundational, plus content production, expanded schema markup, quarterly AI-answer citation push.
Does this pay for itself? For a typical single-location service business with a $150–$400 average job (a cleaning, a session package, a service call), the Foundational retainer pays for itself at roughly one additional booked job per month attributable to improved visibility. — not a guarantee, not a measured study. There is no per-business study quantifying lost jobs from poor visibility; this is bottom-up reasoning from typical ticket sizes, stated as such.

Where we draw the line

The compliance surface for this business is narrow, and we'd rather over-explain it than smooth it over.

FTC review rule

Reviews: we don't touch them the risky way. The FTC's Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule (16 CFR Part 465, finalized August 2024, effective October 21, 2024) carries civil penalties up to $51,744 per violation for fake or incentivized reviews, review-gating, or undisclosed insider reviews. — corroborated via FTC's own press release, the Federal Register listing, and a law-firm summary; the underlying regulatory text itself has not yet been directly quote-matched, so treat the citation as high-confidence secondary, not primary-verified, until that pass is done.

Google GBP policy

Google's own Fake Engagement policy (support.google.com/business/answer/14114287, directly fetched and quoted 2026-07-29) is the day-to-day operating constraint: a profile found in violation can have new reviews blocked, existing reviews unpublished, and a warning label applied — that's the client's listing at risk, not just ours.

Licensing

No professional-licensing regime applies to this business itself — it's a marketing service, not a regulated profession. The compliance surface is entirely the review/advertising side above.

The questions people actually ask

How is this different from the spam "your website needs work" emails I get every week?

Transparency and scope. You get a paid, itemized audit ($250–$400, one-time, no retainer commitment) with the underlying findings shown, not a vague scare pitch. And a public compliance stance — see below — that the mass-email pattern doesn't have.

What is AEO, actually — is this a real thing or a buzzword?

68% of Google searches now end without a click (SparkToro/Search Engine Land), and searches that trigger an AI Overview run around 83% zero-click, with only ~1% of AI Overview views producing a click to a cited source (Pew Research Center, March 2025 panel data, published 2025-07-22). AEO is the response to that shift: getting cited inside an AI-generated answer matters because fewer buyers ever reach a page of results to click a link at all.

How much does this cost and what do I actually get?

Three tiers, shown above, anchored below the small-business-specific market range on purpose. The one-time audit is a low-commitment way to see the findings before you commit to a retainer.

Will you buy or manipulate my Google reviews?

No. We will never solicit, incentivize, gate, or filter your reviews. That's not a disclaimer, it's the point — a vendor that manipulates your GBP risks getting YOUR listing suspended, not just their own reputation.

How do I know this pays for itself?

The breakeven line above: roughly one additional booked job a month at a typical local-service ticket size covers the Foundational tier. Stated plainly as modeled reasoning, not a guarantee.
